You Didn't Get Here Alone
We celebrate achievement as though it were an individual act.
She earned the degree.
She built the career.
She started the business.
She survived the difficult season.
She succeeded.
And she did.
But none of us becomes who we are entirely by ourselves.
Somewhere in your story, there are people.
A teacher who saw something in you before you could see it yourself.
A friend who reminded you who you were when you temporarily forgot.
A parent, grandparent, or family member whose sacrifices created opportunities they may never have had themselves.
A mentor who opened a door.
A colleague who shared what she knew.
A woman who told you the truth when everyone else was telling you what you wanted to hear.
Perhaps even someone who entered your life briefly, said exactly what you needed to hear, and disappeared without ever knowing the difference they made.
These relationships become part of us.
The messages we receive, the examples we witness, the expectations placed upon us, the encouragement offered at the right moment—all of it helps shape the internal architecture through which we come to understand ourselves and what we believe is possible.
Not every influence has been positive.
Some people taught us through love.
Others taught us through difficulty.
Both can leave us wiser.
Recognizing the people who helped shape us doesn't diminish our accomplishments.
It gives them context.
You still did the work.
You still made the choices.
You still walked through the doors.
But perhaps someone helped you believe there was a door worth walking through.
And there is something else worth remembering.
By now, you are part of someone else's foundation too.
Someone has watched how you handled adversity.
Someone remembers something you said years ago.
Someone has been strengthened because you believed in her.
Someone sees possibility because your life showed her that possibility existed.
We stand on what others have given us.
And then, often without realizing it, we become part of what someone else stands on.
Perhaps that's one of the most beautiful things about becoming who we are.
Our lives are ours.
But they were never meant to be lived alone.
