You Are Allowed to Change Your Mind
Have you ever stayed committed to something long after you knew it no longer fit?
A goal.
A career path.
A relationship.
A responsibility.
Even a dream.
Sometimes we keep going because we've invested so much time, energy, or emotion that changing direction feels like failure.
Sometimes it's because other people know us by the choice we've already made.
And sometimes the resistance is even deeper.
We've incorporated that choice into our identity.
“This is who I am.”
“This is what I do.”
“I've always wanted this.”
“I'm not someone who quits.”
Once a decision becomes connected to identity, changing our minds can feel like changing who we are.
But consider this:
The woman who made that original decision made it with the information, experiences, needs, beliefs, and understanding she had at the time.
She did the best she could with what she knew.
You know more now.
You've experienced more.
You've changed.
Why should growth require you to remain permanently loyal to a decision made by an earlier version of yourself?
Changing your mind doesn't automatically mean the first decision was wrong.
A choice can be right for one season and wrong for the next.
A dream can carry you exactly where you needed to go and still not be the dream you carry forward.
A role can once have been deeply meaningful and later become something you've outgrown.
That's not inconsistency.
That's life.
We are constantly receiving new information—about the world and about ourselves. The question is whether we allow that information to influence the choices we make next.
You don't have to abandon your history to honor your growth.
You can appreciate who you were, respect the choices she made, and still give the woman you are today permission to choose differently.
Changing your mind can be an act of courage.
Sometimes it is also an act of extraordinary self-trust.
You are allowed to know something now that you didn't know then.
And you are allowed to let what you know now matter.
